Interview in CNN Chile about FONDECYT Regular Research Project on Self-Healing Bituminous Materials
Interview in CNN Chile about our FONDECYT Regular Research Project 1190027 on self-healing of bituminous materials using renewable resource-based microcapsules. This project explores the use of more sustainable and economically viable solutions to repair cracked asphalt pavements by the action of biopolymeric microcapsules, where different renewable resource-based polymers obtained from marine and lignocellulosic biomass waste, will be used as encapsulation materials for virgin and recycled rejuvenating agents. The adopted methodology will be experimental and numerical, combining material characterisation techniques with multi-scale modelling, as well as Life Cycle Assessments and Life Cycle Cost Analysis to bottom-up design the materials, fully characterising them and evaluating their actual production.
